CHARLE Y LOLLIS
SINCE THE BEGINNING, Sunbelt Ag Expo has prided itself on
having great relations with the many universities and land grant
colleges throughout the Southeast. The expo had its start in 1964,
not far from its current home in Moultrie, Georgia.
The Sunbelt Ag Expo started off as Abraham Baldwin Agricultural
College’s (ABAC) “Dealer Days”, a small farm show put on by faculty
and staff that has now grown to be North America’s Premier Farm
Show. Starting from a single college campus, the expo now has over
ten colleges that load up and showcase what they have to offer at
our expo every year in October. This lasting partnership between
Sunbelt Ag Expo and the colleges and universities throughout the
Southeast and beyond allows visitors to learn about each institution
individually and all their opportunities in one location.
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is one of the reasons
Sunbelt Ag Expo is what it is today, and ABAC is proud to announce
the exciting things that will be exhibited at their building for the
42nd Sunbelt Ag Expo. Stepping in to ABAC’s building will be like
stepping into a breath of fresh air, with staff and students who are
eager to talk to you about the past, present and future of ABAC.
You will get all the information you need on current students
and how to be involved in the Alumni Association. ABAC will also
be sharing about The Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic
Village, which became a part of ABAC’s campus in 2010. Since
becoming a part of ABAC’s campus it encompasses a good bit of
the ABAC building on the expo grounds. Interpreters from the
museum will be there to spark an interest in agriculture for all ages.
A fan favorite by past, present, and future Dawgs, University of
Georgia (UGA) College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
will be back in their building this fall. UGA will be planning their
building around the theme of “Growing Stronger,” where they will
be having onsite resources for health, well-being, stress reduction,
and emotional support. They will also have plenty of information
about the research they do under the School of Social Work as well
as everyone’s favorite photo booths!
Continuing with Georgia’s colleges, Fort Valley State University
(FVFU) is another institution to offer agricultural degrees. Fort
Valley State University has been showcasing their school at
Sunbelt Ag Expo for around 40 years and plans to continue their
relationship by bringing even more excitement this year.
Fort Valley State University’s College of Agriculture, Family
Sciences, and Technology will have exhibits featuring aquaculture,
drones, and goat research. Not only will they have people onsite
answering questions and teaching you about their college and
the importance of agriculture but many interactive activities as
well. Trivia questions, prizes and a chance to sample some goat
byproducts will be available for you to try. Make sure to stop by
one of FVSU locations the week of the expo!
The orange tiger paws are out, and Clemson University is ready
to be back at Sunbelt Ag Expo this year. Clemson University partners
with South Carolina’s Department of Agriculture and South Carolina’s
Farm Bureau making sure that every visitor walks away with more
knowledge about South Carolina’s largest industry, agriculture.
Clemson extension as well as Clemson’s Department of Pesticide
Regulation will be there providing updates to issues regarding our
farmers. Clemson also wants to highlight the benefits of a land grant
institution and how it can help current and potential students.
Planning to teach and promote sustainable practices for small
farms to expo-goers as well as economic and community growth,
Florida A&M University is excited to join us for the 42nd Sunbelt
Ag Expo. Focusing on the four areas of their Cooperative Extension
Program; Agriculture and Natural Resources, 4-H Youth Development,
Community Resource Development, and Family Consumer Sciences,
FAMU will have science-based, educational activities as well as social
skill-building activities for adolescents and teenagers.
Auburn University is ready to answer your questions about
all things ag related. Auburn is ecstatic to open their showcase
to visitors, alumni and present students with fun activities and
giveaways hoping to show potential students all Auburn has to offer.
Auburn will be exhibiting topics including beef, poultry and water
resources as well as highlighting research and extension programs.
The University of Florida, South Georgia Technical College, Florida
Gateway College, The Technical College System of Georgia, and
Thomas University are some of the other southeast colleges that will
also be onsite for The Sunbelt Ag Expo. Be sure you stop by each of
these exhibits and check out all the awesome things going on.
Sunbelt's Partnership with Southeast colleges
ABAC Students serve as social media interns for the Sunbelt
Expo. This college partnership, now in its fourth year, is one of
many that lends itself to the Expo’s success.
